Sam Kelley

Sam Kelley exploring in Costa Rica

Sam Kelley is a 22-year-old senior at Texas State University. Sam was born and raised in Houston, TX and has come to Texas State to receive a degree in the School of Mass Communications and Journalism. Currently, Sam is a General Mass Communications major but is leaning towards Public Relations. Sam believes his passion for writing was instilled in him by his late father, who was a standup comic. Besides writing, Sam enjoys being active in Mixed Martial Arts and Jiu Jitsu. In fact, he aspires to do PR for fighting tournaments, or individual fighters. He also sees himself possibly writing for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Magazine. Sam has been practicing martial arts since he was seven years old, but really developed a passion for these sports at 17.
Sam says, “Some of the best life lessons I've learned have come from the time I spent training [MMA and Jiu Jitsu].”
Training has become a way for Sam to not only let go of stress, but also learn that worrying over errors, rather than fixing them and being progressive, is no way to handle the tricky situations life throws us.
“Just like in life where we find ourselves stressed or overwhelmed with adversity, the best thing you can do is keep moving and work through it. If you panic or stress too much, you don't go anywhere and if you stop you're dead in the water.”
