Diverse Sources Interview (week 6 module)

Chris Carter:
Freshman biology student
18 years old
Hometown: Marble Falls, TX
Lives at The Outpost San Marcos

Me: “The university had a record enrollment of 35,568 students last year and is expected to have a record or near-record enrollment again this year. How has this increased enrollment affected you?”

Chris: “It hasn’t really affected me in any way to be honest. I’m just a freshman, so I don’t know any other way. Maybe if you were asking a senior or a grad student or something they might have a different opinion, since they were here when the university was smaller, but to me this is just normal.”

Me: “Did the size of the university influence your decision to come here?”

Chris: “Well, I didn’t really come to Texas State for its size. Coming here wasn’t even my first choice school. The number of students that go to school here doesn’t really bother me as much as it might other people because I like that sort of ‘big-school’ atmosphere.”

Me: “So should the university continue to grow?”

Chris: “I mean, more students attending the university means that the school brings in more money to help the students out right? And maybe if we get bigger then our sports teams will attract better talent! So no, I'm not opposed to Texas State growing more.”
