Diverse Sources Interview.

Source: Darbie Walker
Hometown: Lubbock, Texas
Student

Q1: The University had a record enrollment of 35,568 students last year and is expected to have a record or near record again this year. How has this increases enrollment affected you?

A1: "It really hasn’t affected me that much. I’ve been here for 4 years and its been growing the entire time from the construction to the students. It is really amazing to see this happen before my eyes here."

Q2: Should the university continue to grow?

A2: "I believe it should grow as much as it can without growing too much.  I know that doesn’t make any sense. I mean it in a way like this place is so nice a peaceful has a small town feel that you know everybody but it’s a big university with big time enrollment."

Q3: Did the size of the university influence your decision to come here?

A3: "Umm not really. I am originally from Lubbock and I didn’t want to stay home and go to Tech like everyone else from my high school. I visited TXST twice and really liked how it had that small town feel I mentioned a min ago. I feel like a can a good education but at the same time feel like a can have friends that I will see on campus."

Q4: Do you see friends on campus?

A4: "Actually yes quite often. I’ve been here for 4 years so I recognize a lot of people I have had in class once or twice as well as from the dorm my freshman year. I have friends that go to the other big schools in like UT and A&M and they always complain on how busy and packed those places are."

Q5: What are your thoughts on Texas State University?

A5: "I think that we have our own little slice of heaven here.  I love everything about this town. Except for all this darn construction. I do think that once it gets done it will be awesome!"

Q6: (I was going ask about the construction) The construction is something that comes with TXST growing so fast. Can you expand a little more on that?

A6: "oh yeah sure. Well I currently live across the railroad tracks and we all know that if are late for anything in this town the dang train has like spidey senses and comes out of no where and will make you even more late. I’m bummed that I wont be here to experience the overpass they are supposed to build to bypass the train. That will be a blessing to future students."

Q7: Do you attend sporting events? If so why do you think so little people go when we have such a record-breaking enrollment?

A7: "OH YEAH! I love going to football games. I love to go to tailgate, just like everyone else does! I think we always have a pretty good student section attendance. Most people just don’t go to the games cause they would rather go back to the house and drink."

Q8: On a scale from 1-10 can you rate your experience here at Texas State University? And then please tell me why you gave it that number.

A8: "U  Oh yeah and the education is pretty great as well!"
mmmm that’s a hard one, I’m going to have to say 8. Good solid 8, and that’s because I have had a really good time here, met a lot of friends I will have for life. Only thing that I can complain about is the parking but that’s a whole new subject.

Q9: one more question, lets go back to the parking situation you mentioned. That actually is very closely correlated with the attendance. Can you expand on what your complaints?

A9: "Oooooo don’t even get me started. I hate everything about the parking. There just isn’t enough of it! They keep building new dorms and no parking garages! Hell I think they are building one on top of the old lot my the rec. That just makes no sense to me. Where do they expect everyone to park!?"
