5 Things to Know About Campus Carry

1.)   You have to be 21-years-old to carry on campus
·      “To obtain a license, a person must be 21 years of age; meet state and federal qualifications to own a handgun; and receive CHL training from a certified instructor for the Department of Public safety.” –Texas State University
2.)   Certificate to carry is called CHL (Concealed Handgun License)
3.)   Was signed June 1, 2015 but began on campus August 1, 2016
4.)   Texas law that must be implemented, not just Texas State decision
·      “As a Texas public university we are required by the legislature to implement the Campus Carry legislation and we are doing so in a thoughtful and reasonable manner.” – Texas State University
5.)   Handgun cannot be visible, must be concealed and faculty and staff are not required to notify anyone that they are carrying a concealed handgun
·      “A license holder is not required to disclose that he or she has a license to anyone except a magistrate or peace officer.” – Texas State University
