MUSICIANS SAY THE TEXAS STATE MARIACHI GROUP IS PROSPERING THROUGH THEIR MUSICAL PERFORMANCES.

TEXAS STATE UNIVERSIRTY’S MARIACHI GROUP “MARIACHI NUEVA GENERACION” WAS FOUNDED AS A CLASS IN 1997.

SINCE THEN…THE GROUP IS ONE OF THE LEADING UNIVERSITY GROUPS IN THE STATE OF TEXAS AND COMPETES IN MUSICAL COMPETITIONS AROUND THE STATE.

THE GROUP IS MADE UP OF TEXAS STATE STUDENTS ENROLLED IN SCHOOL AND IS OPEN TO ANYONE THAT PLAYS VIOLIN…GUITAR…TRUMPET…AND SOMETRADITIONAL MEXICAN INSTRUMENTS.

THE GROUP IS VERY ACTIVE IN THE ANNUAL MARIACHI VARGAS EXTRAVGANZA HOSTEN IN SAN ANTONIO.

THEY COMPETE IN SAN ANTONIO AGAINST OTHER SCHOOLS AND GROUPS IN THE STASTE OF TEXAS.

TEXAS STATE PLACED FIRST PLACE IN 2014 AND HOPES TO CONTINUE MAKING A STATEMENT IN THE TEXAS REGION AS A WELL RESPECTED ENSEMBLE.

“I used to play trumpet and guitarron in the University of Texas – Pan American mariachi group and I still remember competing against Texas State. They always come with an awesome selection of music and play them with big passion. I respect the faculty and students that run that group because they play together as a unit and always sound good at the competitions.”

STUDENTS AT TEXAS STATE THAT KNOW OF THE GROUP ARE VERY AWARE OF THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS IT HAS DONE.

“When I decided to come to Texas State as a freshman, I remember hearing they had a mariachi group here. I remember thinking how cool that was, because I had heard about it in high schools but never in an actual university. It adds to the many reasons Texas State is so diverse. They have a reputation for sounding good, too. I saw them at a concert at Evans Auditorium last year.”

ARTURO RAMIREZ OF A LOCAL MARIACHI GROUP HAS SEEN THE GROUP PLAY AT COMPETITIONS AND IS IMPRESSED WITH ITS MUSICIANS

Texas State’s mariachi contains some very talented musicians, and they never fail to impress me with their skills. MARIACHI NUEVA GENERACION PLANS TO HEAD TO DEL RIO, TEXAS IN DECEMBER TO PLY FOR STUDENT IN HIGH SCHOOL.

THEY HOPE TO RECRUIT AND BRING INTEREST TO TEXAS STATE AND ITS MANY OPPORTUNITIES.

THE GROUP PLANS TO KEEP COMPETING AND BRINGING IN RECOGNITION FOR TEXAS STATE AND ITS LATIN MUSIC STUDIES PROGRAM.
