Identifying info: 20 year old female student at Texas State. From Sugar Land, TX. Junior.
1. How well do you think Texas State complies with the ADA?
I think that Texas State does a great job complying with ADA. I have met
several of the faculty in charge of the Office of Disabilities services, many
of whom have received various honors for their work and dedication, and they
all do everything they can in order to make sure that they are doing their best
work for their students. However I do think that the campus is not completely
ADA friendly in the sense that the ramps are way off route from a typical walk
across campus and are not all easy to find.
2. Do you ever use any of the
physical accommodations required by the ADA, such as elevators, ramps or door
openers? How does this affect your commute around campus?
Yes, I do use the ramps and elevators quite often. This helps my commute
because there are so many stairs and hills here at Texas State and having a
break from those is nice. This improves my commute around campus.
3. Does the ADA affect you
personally in any way?
The ADA does not personally affect me.
4. What do you think Texas State would be like without the ADA?
I think those in need of ADA assistance would not physically be able to
attend Texas State. There are so many
hills and stairs that it would be almost impossible for the students unable to
climb the stairs to get across campus.
5. How do you think the construction around Texas State, and the
campus's over all layout, affects people with disabilities?
I am sure that the construction has made it far more difficult for those
with disabilities to get around. The
construction sites have mostly now added ramps but they already have to go even
farther to use them now. This campus is
definitely not an easy one to use when you have disabilities because of the
vastness and elevations.
