President of Texas State University – Denise M. Trauth
explains the figure of enrollment in
newsletter
at Texas State is at 36,700 students for this fall. With the increase of
enrollment more opportunities have risen for grants from major organizations. This
not only affects the school but the current students.
The increase of enrollment has affected business management
major and senior Raymond Fruebos, he says that he knows that San Marcos is one
of the fastest growing cities in Texas. “Preparing for growth causes increase
in tuition but in comparison to other schools Texas State still has a better
tuition rate,” says Raymond.
Junior accounting major Chelsea Buckley is against the increase
of enrollment here at Texas State and says it creates another set of problems
such as lines and parking. “There isn’t enough parking for the number of
students and the lines are increasingly long at the restaurants on campus which
increases wait time,” says Chelsea.
Virginia Vallejo a Sociology senior thinks the higher number of
students is a good and bad thing for the university as a whole. “The more
students we have here means the more of a name we can create for ourselves and
brings in more student,” Virginia said. For commuter students she says being
one says there is less emphases on helping out the students who are driving
here and more on the on housing students.
