SAN MARCOS, TX- Texas State University has hit record enrollment for the 2014-2015 academic year. The increased enrollment has made the university fourth largest in Texas.
"Our preliminary enrollment figure this fall topped 36,700 students and represents a roughly 3.5 percent increase from a year ago." said President Denise Trauth.
In President Trauth's letter she explains that the record breaking enrollment means an increase in a number of grants the university has received. The university recently received their largest grant from NASA who awarded them $15 million. Along with other grants which totaled to $10 million. Though beneficial to the university some students have their own opinions on whether or not the Texas State should continue to grow.

"Growth in the university is a good thing because it adds to the amount of diversity in the student body."said senior Luke Garza.
While some students encourage the university to grow others feel that the university is becoming over crowded.
"the halls are now more packed and it is hard to walk to class fast, and due to this, I am always running late. The cafeteria and the classrooms are now more packed and it is hard to find seats to sit in." said sophomore Bianca Herrejon.
Some students see the construction from overcrowding becoming an issue for the river that runs through San Marcos.
"There is so much construction everywhere and so many apartment complexes have gone up within the last year. This has affected the river in a negative way." said psychology major, Amanda Garcia.
Silas Ott, a wildlife biology major, also shares his opinion about the how the increase of people affect the river.

"(The river) is not nice anymore. The river used to be clear all day now it is dirty by 5 p.m. It is kind of gross now." said SLAC employee, Silas Ott.

Library employee, Jael Flores, talks about the changes in the library due the increased amount of students.
"Of course the library has been renovated to make room for the students. We have removed the shelves on the entry floor and replaced them with tables and chairs. We have also put more whiteboards on the wall, as well as new computers." said Jael Flores.
As the growth increases at Texas State, the university is finding news ways to accommodate student living as well as the amount of resources students have access to.
